Making the Plains Great Again: Dealing the NEA Defeats in Two States

CIE Helps Teachers Eject National Unions from Kansas, Nebraska Districts

Nebraska Teachers Notch Their First Win While Kansas Teachers Add 28th and 29th Wins Against Kansas NEA

SPARTANBURG, S.C., FEBRUARY 3, 2025 — The Center for Independent Employees’ (CIE) ongoing “Brushfires of Freedom” campaign in Kansas has spilled over into Nebraska, as CIE assisted teachers with removing the National Educators Association from three school districts in the two states at the end of 2024 and beginning of 2025.

CIE Victories in Kansas Keep Rolling

The National Education Association was removed as the bargaining unit from two additional school districts in Kansas in January. With CIE’s help, teachers in both the Caney Valley School District and the Central Plains district voted overwhelmingly to expel the NEA. The victories were decisive, with 92% of teachers in Caney Valley and 85% in Central Plains voting to free themselves from the NEA’s grip.

So far, CIE has provided the legal counsel to remove the NEA from a whopping 29 Kansas school districts, liberating thousands of Kansas teachers and schoolchildren from the national teachers’ unions. More victories are on the horizon.

Independent Teacher Movement Advances into Nebraska

In Nebraska, CIE is building on our “Brushfires of Freedom” strategy, in which we have assisted teachers in one Kansas district after another in ousting the NEA. Like their counterparts over the Kansas border, Nebraska’s Friend School District teachers voted overwhelmingly (85%) to show the NEA the door.

Working from coast to coast, CIE has so far freed well over 50,000 schoolchildren from the big unions. In the process, CIE has helped educators remove millions of dollars in union dues from local, state and national politics.

More Private Sector Wins

Adding to an impressive 2025 win tally already stacking up in the public sector, CIE assisted private sector funeral home employees with removing the Teamsters from their affairs. The January win came in what is generally regarded as a Teamster stronghold, New York City. CIE also assisted employees with a union ouster at a metal supplier in Florida.

Senior Vice President Keith Williams said the Great Plains wins show that CIE’s methodical approach is paying off. “It’s energizing to see the consistency with which we have been able to remove the NEA from local districts in Kansas. It’s a steady drumbeat,” Williams said. “And it’s thrilling to see a new front open up in Nebraska. We’re looking forward to seeing how independent-minded teachers in the Cornhusker state seize this moment.”
