ABOUT CIE

The Center for Independent Employees (CIE) is a 501(c)(3) legal defense foundation that provides legal representation and aid to independent employees who are opposed to union oppression in their workplaces. 

CIE is dedicated to protecting employee freedom from union interference in the workplace. With a presence in all 50 states, we have worked with employees of private and public entities across the nation and dealt with most of the major unions, including UAW, Steelworkers, Teamsters, SEIU, NEA, and others for over 20 years.

WHAT WE DO

CIE provides legal guidance and support to employees who wish to eliminate unions from their workplace, eradicate “must pay dues” clauses from union contracts, oppose initial union certification efforts, counteract workplace organizing, and remove Big Labor from our educational institutions.

We work for the people – loyal, hardworking people who are disenfranchised by coercive union power and union abuses. When these employees begin the arduous task of going against Big Labor, they are often frustrated and overwhelmed by the process and feel intimidated by union tactics. CIE provides free legal aid and educational resources to employees ready to decertify a union that no longer serves their needs.

We keep a watchful eye on union activities, especially political activities and efforts to suppress employee rights. We assist employees across a broad spectrum of industries. From initial workplace organizing campaigns to decertification of existing unions, we are here to provide the type and level of support employees require.

CAMPAIGNS

Eliminate a Union from a Workplace

Our team provides legal support and guidance through a decertification campaign to eliminate an existing union presence within a workplace. CIE has a strong track record of success in decertification campaigns.

Remove Union Membership as a Work Condition

Through a deauthorization or rescission campaign, our team provides legal guidance and support to employees wishing to eliminate the “union security clause” from contracts, also known as the “must pay dues” clause which requires employees to become dues-paying members of the union as a condition of employment.

Oppose Initial Union Certification and Counteract Workplace Organizing

Our team provides legal aid and guidance to mount a “third-party campaign” during National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Railway Labor Act (RLA), or state-sanctioned union elections. Through awareness and educational grassroots campaigns, our team supports employee efforts to thwart union organizing or any card-signing efforts with a preventive campaign.

Remove Big Labor from Schools

Our team provides legal guidance and support to empower teachers to regain control of their profession. We work with our clients to create new professional support relationships and eliminate political donations from school dues.

OUTREACH

We provide free legal aid, educational support, and grassroots organization to employees seeking to remain or become union-free. Our extensive, national network of attorneys and paralegals works side-by-side with these employees – advocating, educating, guiding, and assisting in legal efforts to fight and decertify unions and win back their rights. 

Our client base encompasses a multitude of first languages and cultures. From Spanish to Russian to Creole, CIE’s extensive network of professionals ensures all communication efforts penetrate and connect on a personal level.
